Hanging led light

Hi guys I am currently stuck in a predicament. I need to hang my ocean revives over my tank. My issue is the way I plan on hanging them I will not teach a joist. My joist is directly in the center of my tank.

I will need 2 ceiling hooks with how I am going to hang the lights. Which ceiling anchor will be the strongest? I want have these hooks very secure and need an overkill option as I don't want the lights to fall in the tank. The leds only weight about 5lb each so total of 10lbs

I would use Toggle bolt and n eye hook with machine screws end(menards.)Imo.. but there are many options

Toggle would work. You could also get crafty and build something that would go across 2 joists. Either a flat board bolted into the joists or a fake box beam of sorts. You can then mount your hooks to that. More work but forsure worth it.

Okay great thanks guys. Yeah my joists are every 32 or 36inches so I don't want to add a really long piece of wood to the ceiling

Depending on how far away your tank is from the wall, maybe some shelf brackets on the wall and hang the light from the end of the brackets.

Lots of ideas are coming to mind?

Girlfriend ruled out the shelf brackets that's how I was planning on hanging the lights lol. I am not trying to figure out how to hang them from the higher part of the wall. Just above the tank. I've drilled some holes that I tested with a stud finder and nothing but metal studs.

Honestly if you want overkill go to your local hardware store and buy the drywall anchors, they have ones rated for 50lbs and up, I did it with no problems and was able to hang 3ft light fixtures with no problem.

I have these drywall anchors I used for my TV Wall stand but I will be only using two hooks to hold both lights up worried one will fail. One is rated for about 60lb but should I trust it?

Did you attach the drywall anchors to the ceiling? And how many did you use?

I would not use those. Go get the metal versions of those anchors but either buy the hooks you need separately or take those out of the package and take them with you to be sure they screw into the metal anchors. When I say metal anchors I'm not referring to the butterfly ones, they are metal screw in anchors that are self tapping.

Okay thanks I'll check then out as well.

Forgot to mention, you may already know but just as a friendly reminder.....

To set the anchors dead center with where you need the lights to hang over the tank, take a level and make sure your wall behind the tank is plumb, any difference add/subtract that to your measurement, measure from your wall to center of the tank and carry that measurement to the ceiling. Do the same thing using the next closest wall from the side of you tank to get the inset side measurements, carry to ceiling.

Thanks all who helped. I decided to make two brackets and mounted then with togglers under the second ceiling. I couldn't hang from the top ceiling because I was worried about putting a toggle bolt >1inch from the end of the dry wall which would not be affective.

Now I just have to wait for my second light hopefully it comes in tomorrow make a bracket that keeps them together then hang em up
