Hey guys,
I joined this site over the summer and I started a build thread over at RC and never started one here with my 75gal, so here it goes. 1st part is gonna be mostly cut and paste...
Starting the build:
Front of the tank:
Overflow:
Back of the tank, shows the homemade light hanging brackets... didn't want to hang from ceiling:
Sump (Flows as follows: From the right:Overflow chamber/protein skimmer area>Refugium area>uturn to return pump)
Sunlight Supply 250watt DE pendants cleaned, refinished, and waiting!
Just used a layer of thin plastic on the back wall where the tank will be going to prevent corrosion of the wall or paint peel:
Out with the old, In with the new! 75gal Tank moved inside the house!
Sump's in the stand!
Return plumbing done!
Overflow plumbing done!
Lights are hung!
20 lbs of Crushed coral in, 10 lbs of #5 aragonite sand in, ~40 lbs of 10 year old live sand from a local shark tank and filled almost half way!
That picture was taken when the water is really cloudy... It's settled a little bit now but it's only been about 3 hours. It's probably settling slowly cuz i have a powerhead in there to keep the gas exchange for the bacteria in the sand.
Filled up! With a little leak at first in the plumbing, but fixed that and kept on going! Started on some aquascaping: (aquascaping is a big different now since that collapsed due to stupid urchin):
More pics:
Decided to install a one way check valve on the return side, spring kind:
WON 350watt titanium heater:
Protein skimmer at work:
Overflow, added another 90degree elbow to bring the pipe underwater and it's **** quiet now:
Added a new loc line fitting so i could have 2 loc line outlets:
Lastly, I got 17lbs of smaller pieces of live rock to make the aquascape I wanted, i love the lagoon style and after about an hour only doing the aquascape, here's what i came up with for the right side of the tank... this is 17lbs of the larger live rock that i got yesterday and made the shape with the larger pieces. Then used some of the larger fuge rubble I had and stacked it. I'm loving it so far! Also used some of that JB weld Water Weld to hold some of the smaller pieces in place, pretty stout structure overall though! I got very lucky and many of the pieces locked together very well.
Also, after running it for about 5 hours now, the water cleared up almost instantly. Very happy! I got a few powerheads in there for now just to keep the water flowing a lot.
Everything Moved over to the 75gal from the 29gal!!
And update! Here are the pics I tried my best on the aquascaping to make lots of caves and crevices on the left side. Overall, i like the way it looks! I wanted to do something more creative this time, rather than the pile of rocks look in my 29gal.
FTS:
Aquascape left side of the tank:
Aquascape right side of the tank:
Coral placement... most on sand bed right now to acclimate them to the MH.
two powerheads in each direction behind the rocks to prevent detrius buildup:

Fan for trying to keep temps down with the metal halides... i think i need another one
