Hi Everyone,
My name is Doug and I am new here but have been involved in reefkeeping since January of 1998. I have had too many tanks, corals and fish over the years but even when I lost interest in the hobby in 2007 I still had at least two tanks running. My main reeftank is a 90 gallon that was setup in early 2000, which was an upgrade from my 75 gallon tank. At one point I had at least six tanks in my house which included the 90 and 75 gallon tanks along with a 55 gallon, two 29 gallon, a 20 gallon and a 12 gallon.
I went through almost all phases of corals over the years including soft corals, LPS and SPS and a brief time with a couple of anemones. I had lot of different corals and fish and learned many hard lessons on how to and how not to keep them. I still have one of my first soft corals from 1998 who has made it through all my mistakes.
I also have the three original false Percula clown fish that I started the 75 gallon tank with in March of 1998 and a Pindos hawkfish from June or July of 1998. There is also a purple tang that is nearing 9 or 10 years now and a powder blue tang that has been with me for five years or longer. In my 75 gallon, which looks like a swamp, long story, I have a huma huma trigger that has been with me since early 2005 or longer.
I was an admin for a large reef keeping message board from 1998 until 2007 and have been off and on various message board since 2007.
Up until today, when I picked up four corals, I bought less then a 10 corals and one fish, my flame hawk when my five plus year old one died, since 2007.
I have a few published articles on the reefkeeping hobby but they are now dated and I am hoping to update them to 2013 when time permits.
Other than that, I have worked in Information Technology for almost 30 years, I have my own part time IT consulting firm and have been a part time personal trainer since 2007. I train and help instruct Shotokan Karate and also train Iaido (the art of drawing a sword). My hobbies include writing, photography and too many other things to list.
Luckily for me, my wife and son put up with this hobby and have driven to most LFS's in the state of Illinois including Reefwise today.
Sorry about all the babble. Once I start typing, I cannot stop...
