Well hey guys.
I'm very new To the reef stuff. I just converted a while back from an awesome African Cichlids tank.

What I have so far is

My old Coralife Compact flourecent 48"

I have a 100g Skimmer ( I can't remember who makes it. It's not anything special.)

Stealth 200w heater

Magnum 350 canister

75g Oak trim tank and matching stand.

I have about 70lbs of live rock, 75lbs of aragonite sand.

9w coralife and odyssea UV sterilizer (not using bulbs died when I moved)

Some scarlet and blue crabs, few turbo snails, nassarius snails, 1 scarlet cleaner shrimp, Blue Spot shrimp goby(watchman) and a arc eye hawk fish. (I know they will eat crabs and stuff but so far he's leavin my cleanup crew alone.)

I have plans on adding maybe a kalk(or calcium) reactor and upgrading to LED lighting(possibly just T-5s). I'll probley pick up another new magnum 350 to throw on in a bit.

I'll be here around, reading and reading and reading. I love my aquarium hobby. Hope to learn some great stuff on here.

Lastly I'm located in northern Chicagoland.

Thanks all. Everyone seems friendly.

I do have one question. On one of the pieces of rocks I have there is like a half inch cylindrical type thing. It's bright orange and sometimes it seems like it has a mouth or something filter feeding. But oddly it lets out this little string ( almost looks like a long piece of hair) and sometimes when I'll go up to the tank when my atinics are on after I just recently shut my 10000ks off and it's slowly drawing it back into the center of it? Any one know what it is?

Rather than starting a useless new thread I'll add to this. What would the benefits really be if I went from my 4x64w coralife CFL to a 4xT-5 fixture vs if I went LED or MH?
