I was cleaning the glass on my tank and bumped the thermometer and it broke!!!!!! I used the net to scoop the contents out immediately. I just added a snail and 2 hermits as the tank has cycled almost 8 weeks. Only others in the tank are yellow tail damsels (2) and a blue/green chromis. Should I be worried? If need be I may be able to set up another small tank quick. Please, any comments are greatly appreciated!!!

Not sure whats in the thermometer. You should call the manufacturer to see what thermometer is made of and go from there. If livestock looks sickly, you can always do a large water change.

I think the little metal balls are just for weight. The colored liquid is an alcohol solution of some sort, from what I've read. You should be fine. I'd just clean up the glass and metal balls.

Ok. The glass tube that holds the liquid is intact. I know that a lot of thermometers use mercury. I was total panic when I seen this happen. So glad that this site is here for instant answers!!! Thank you everyone!!!

thermometers have not been made with mercury for at least a decade if not longer, they are a tinted alcohol solution now.
