My tank lately has been getting a lot of brown diatom I believe it's called. What's the best way to get rid of this nasty looking stuff?

Yeah, it's probably just cycling the silicates out form the newish sand and rock IF dry rock was used.

I'm unaware of anything helping other than time. If they are appearing more heavily after water changes then you may need to replace your DI resin. My in-line and handheld TDS meters show 0 but I get traces of diatoms when my resin needs replacement.

Haven't done a water change in about 2 weeks or so. It's due for one soon. But I think my girl rinsed out the filter the other day and used the tap water instead of RO water

I alway rinse my filter pads with tap its not a big issue. New tanks look good one day and crap next they just need time

What's your bioload in your tank, Fish any coral? If you're feeding something cut back on it. Suck out the diatoms before you do water changes, Blow out your live rock before you do water changes. And until you get them under control(Gone) do more water changes. Your tank is still very young and needs TLC as it get established. If it was older I'd recomend a little carbon dosing but it's way too soon for that, good luck.

Cut back on food for a week, give the sand a couple good cleanings and ride through the new tank syndrome. It's annoying but teaches you to clean and be patient. It will be a distant memory soon
