Help with clown placement

Ok I was told to buy three clowns that it was better than two or four. Well my friend was taking down her red Sea max and I grabbed a black clown and put it in my dt also. I took the two smaller ones that hang out together and put them in a different tank (on the same system don't know if that matters) then the other two a orange and a black I want to put in my fuge. It's a nice fuge with a light on a 12hr cycle with live rock rubble and cheato. It's big about 1/3 of a 55 gal. Flow is about a trickle.

Ok. When I go to inland aquatics their breeder tanks are jsut like this. I know I'm no breeder but......

Why not throw them in there feed them well and see what happens. Should I get a couple clay pots and put them in there? Any advice from anyone would be great. I really just want to be able to get some really cool clowns for my DT.

How much waste does four small clowns produce anyway? Should I just keep two in the fuge and two in the other tank. Or am I wasting space and I should ditch them for the cool ones. If they aren't cause a lot of waste ill jsut stick with the plan and add tks more to the DT.

I had at one time 2 in dt 3 in fuge and 4 in 6gal edge all srilled and plumbed into same system didnt notice and problems with bioload. So really up to u and how many fish u want in dt ive personally over stocked my sps tank with no issues but i also do alot of water changes no slacking allowed when overstocked or it will show but if u willing to do tge maintnance and dont mind having clowns in fuge then go for it

Just dont add none to a tank that already has some if u have 2 in dt and add 2 more they will fight unless its huge tank even then its hit or miss thing about clowns is ive seen tanks with schools of em but all added same time

Keeping clownfish is best in pairs. Three or more has been done in some case in larger tanks. In most cases the dominate two will kill the third one unless than tank is bigger than 125 gallons. As for breeding them, everyone I have seen that does has them in pairs. You can use clay pots but I use ceramic tiles as my preferred spot for the clownfish to lay eggs as they are generally easier to use if you are going to artificially hatch the eggs.

Tom is right about breeding is best in pairs my trio did breed but got lucky and 2 were female and one stayed male. Also i believe female has 2 b least 2 yrs old before they breed from what ive heard. Please correct me if im wrong im not a breeder so dont know for sure but mine were about 2 when laid first batch so assumed i was told right lol

Percula's and ocellaris tend to breed early around the age of 2 while other species like tomatos can take much longer up to 5 years or so.

No they are young. And there is a lot of great info here guys. Thank u. I just want to get some cooler clowns. Like onyx or platinum. I want to keep the black and reg clowns and only have the fuge to put them in. I just picked up a really cool pistol shrimp. He is in the fuge also. Will that be a problem? I'm not tying to breed them just thought I would throw them in there and give it a shot. I don't think I'm heavy on the bioload yet but getting there. My filtration is all together though. And I think I could handle a good amount of fish. One thing is I hate water changes.
