Hey guys, my name is Steve. I've been taking aquariums seriously for the last 5 years or so dealing with both fresh and salt. Started off with my girlfriend and I keeping/breeding high-end fancy goldfish. If anyone here dabbles in goldfish or ponds you may have seen us at the MPKS and AGA shows at darien sportsplex the last few summers. Shortly after we bought and slowly started acclimating our green spotted puffer to full marine conditions which is when I got my first saltwater setup going. started putting in a few corals with him and got the idea to go bigger...

My current setup includes a 75 which has been partially set up for about 3 years now with rock and a few fish, sump/skimmer... I say partially because it was intended to be a reef... only as of late did I finish getting all the parts needed and actually building my DIY Cree XR-E fixture (soon to have a few T5HOs for added color/PAR). Right now I've got about 13 species of coral that are all doing great. The goal is to stock this tank with mostly rare/sought after/aquacultured coral species with the majority being SPS...

I'm all about [big] weekly water changes, high PAR values, excessive amounts of random water flow, no single filtration method... but above all, accuracy and stability... and I also have a tendency to research various products and topics to ridiculous, sometimes cripplingly-debilitating, amounts...

Welcome! You should join my puffer forum. ;)

I have one show-sized ranchu, recently lost my butterfly, due to dropsy. I even tried injections to save him. :(

I'm looking for another husband for Fiona. Do you go to the GF club events?

this tank has been through its fair share of ups and downs... and a few sump reconfigurations to get it functioning the way I like. I'll take some more pics of everything in the next day or so (hopefully with a decent camera) and get a proper tank thread going to track progress. I'll even see if I can dig up pics of past aquascapes and do a quick walkthrough of all the things I've done to start achieving some decent results...

here's where I'm at now...

there definitely are some dim spots mostly due to how I was planning on doing the fixture, but I have since decided it would be best for color/growth if I finished phase 1 of the fixture with the current parts I had and added T5s to finish it off. then I can get the best of both worlds.

actually i'm already registered there. it's been a valuable resource whenever i need any info on any species of puffer... i rarely post, but i'm there from time to time reading and researching. there was a thread of people experimenting with bringing their GSPs to full marine at younger ages which is what gave me the idea to do so myself...

sorry to hear about your butterfly... did you try metromeds? I've been using them on any of my goldfish as soon as i see pineconing or if bottomsitting persists after water changes and i've had reallly good success with it. both of those guys look(ed) great. butterfly telescopes are quickly becoming my favorite breeds...

here's one of mine...

i don't go to any of the GF club events, but i really should now that i have the time...

He's gorgeous!!! There's a dinner coming up next week with the Koi club.

I did soak his foods in Metro/Focus/TC & vits, when the pine-coning started. After a week of not getting better, I did 3 injections of antibiotics. when he started getting stuck to the intake tube, I euthanized him. My ranchu Fiona, is lonely. They spawned 3x, before he got sick. I'm looking for an new husband for her. Do you know of a local person I could purchase an adult from?
