I am trying to get better at taking pictures of corals and fish but it seems through the glass, if I keep the camera at an angle, it causes blurriness and distortion from the glass compared to when I look into the tank straight on. The picture does come out MUCH better when I take it straight on but I can't still get the picture I want like a zoa/paly which is better taken at an angle or top down view. Most of my zoas are growing onto the rock so I can't just move the plug high up to the water surface on a rack and snap a picture that way. What do you guys do for taking top down pics or at least better pics through the tank at an angle? I am using a canon DSLR with standard kit lens.

I just took a few pics and I will upload them in a bit but the problem I am having is distance. Its not that clear still since they are sitting about 15" below water surface.

These pics I took when I moved the frags that i had already on plugs to the rack and moved the rack up close to the water surface.

Its a canon rebel t3. I have been taking pics in Auto, CA, and program mode but I will try to see if manual mode makes a difference. I think its the glass though and maybe taking a picture of corals at an angle to the glass doesn't go well into the camera?

Try a AV mode with high ISO and fast speed. How about the Avast Port Hole for top down.. I can shoot a little angle thru the glass with my Canon 24-70mm or Canon 30mm. Canon Rebel T3 is a nice camera...

Go to to avast marine works it attaches to the lens if 35mm and allows you to bacically stick the camera lens a few inches in the water

Just checked out the site and is more mobile compared to the box that hooks onto the edge of the tank. Does that support SLR lens?

Anyone have any experience with them?

I believe they do support slr. Only experience with avast is with their reactors. And I love those
