How much saltwater will i need to fill a 55 gallon

Hi all I'm new to saltwater and starting up a 55 gallon reef tank. My question is assuming I have about 25 pounds of base rock and 20 pounds of live rock using caribsea fiji pink sand about half inch high, how much saltwater would I really be using total? I will be using aquac remora hob for filtration for now.
 
BTW I ask because I don't want to use tap water initially to start the tank so I will be buying rodi water from the lfs lol, anyone recommend a good way to transport all that water up a flight of stairs?
 
It is hard to say what volume the rocks are, weight really means nothing, as some rocks are more dense then others. I would still get 50 gal. , most likely you will use it all. Whatever is left just store it for future WC. Better get more first time then do extra trips to lfs imo. Just like you said don't use tap water for reef tank.
 
presuming you're paying $50 or more for RO/DI water from a LFS, why not invest in an inexpensive RO/DI unit and make your own?....you will save a boat load of money very quickly as you will require RO/DI top off water immediately on a consist basis.....

and now is the perfect time to buy a unit with all the BF deals going on....
 
OR...
Put the tank in the back of your SUV, drive to the lfs and tell them to "fill'er up". Make sure you have help with the unload...
 
Lol at that 100LL. Thanks for the reply guys I am getting a rodi unit it's that I just wanted to cycle the tank before thanksgiving started. I have instant ocean reefs crystals 160gal bucket.so that was my thought of just getting rodi water.

Thanksgiving is 6 days away.....you won't be cycled by then so keep your hard earned money in your pocket and save it for some corals later...........

I have 2 flights I fat airs on the third floor.....first thing I bought was a coral life Rodi and a bunch of orange buckets with lids from home depot. I ain't haulin no dam water I can make on my own and pay u for it......and I have never ever been sorry.
