How much water from a 200 gallon box?

I use reef crystals at 80 deg 1.025 salinity and I do not get 200 gallons of mixed saltwater. I add 7#10oz to 22.5 gallons of water to get 1.025 at 80 deg. One 50 gallon bag does not even make 2 batches. Does everyone experience this? I run my tank at 79 deg so the temp loss thru the line to the tank drops the saltwater 1 deg.

This is the first time I have posted in any forum with no response. Everyone gets the 200 gallons of saltwater out of their 200 gallon boxes of salt? hmm fishy...:peep:

I'm on my second box of the 200 gallon reef crystal and getting like 180 gallon out of a box. I'm not as accurate on the calculation like you but I I'm making 30 gallons and can get like 6 batches out of the box :(. Hmmmm...

I get about 180 also. I wonder what the buckets yield. I use the weight because with a reservoir and float setup I always have the exact same amount of water. I bought a kitchen scale and it makes the job easy accurate and quick.

They tell you 200 gallons on the box or bucket but they dont mention at what Salinity they provide you 200 gallons of. People such as yourself that use a higher salinity are obvioulsy using more salt. Im guessing they give you 200 gallons worth of salt at the lowest livable salinity level.... ive had to have this conversation many times when selling the stuff and when reps came to our store for big events this was always along the lines of the same answer i gave you and all the customers.

On the instant ocean box it shows it makes 200 gallons mixed at 1.022. Reef crystals might be the same thing

As far as i know and remember it never said, certain brands do yes, but reef crystals has so much other crap in it, they never listed at what Salinity you get your 200 or 160 bucket. That might have changed over the year but i have a bucket in my back room and i double checked and it doesnt say on it.

I would think the reefcrystals would be designed for a reef salinity. I have yet to meet someone that runs there reef at low salinity levels. 1.025 seems to be the norm. I was just curious to see if all brands were similar. I have had great success with reefcrystals and am happy with it, so no need to change. Thanks everyone for the input it is appreciated.

I have never ran anything other than 1.021, your 1.025 sounded high when i started reading this thread.
I tested 3 shops water as I recently jumped back into the hobby and all were 1.021-1.022.
Is there an advantage to running at 1.025?

Corals and inverts tend to thrive best in the 1.023 to 1.027 range. You can get away with MUCH lower levels in a fowlr tank or fish only with mechanical filtration.

Ah thanks George, probably ran lower salinity to keep the fish less disease prone.
Which probably makes even more sense for LFS to run their setups low salinity.
Think Im gonna add a little more salt now, and pack my refractometer on my next trip to the Carribean. :)
