guys I am at my wits end... my tank is driving me nuts ... it should not be fukn impossible for water to flow through a **** tube but I guess for me it is ...whats happening is the the sump level goes up ... then the tank makes a gurgling noise,,, then the level in the sump drops almost over flowing the tank in a few cases it has .. but I cought it just in time then it goes back up again ...what the fuk... when I look at the water going into the sump I see water does not flow steady ,,,it surges some times a large bubble come out of incoming sump hose ... I have some kind of adjustment thing (hose I slide up or down) mark from reef city put on the out going water tube by the bulkhead .. but it dosent do a **** thing,,,, if I put tube down water trickles out ... of I put it up it gurgles not matter where I put it ... if I take it out completely the gurgling stops completely...unless it does the overflowing thing ..... im feeling relly burnt out .. on this ... and if I cant fix this prob... im gonna sell all my salt stuff and get out ... im tired... any advice?

Do you have a RR tank or the siphon overflow. If the RR, I think it might be an issue where you adjust the one tube that you can move up and down in the overflow. Also not sure if you have a gate value but I would also try to adjust that, I have mine just to where if I keep turning the knob I start to slow/stop the water flow into the sump (I believe you are reducing the air in there).

Hope this helps

Have you considered lowering your sump? That drain hose may have something to do with it

Is it possible you have too much water in the system? You'll deff need to give us pics. It's possible that the return is pumping more than the drain can hold, so get the measurements Jeff asked about.

Sounds like your drain system is inconsistent and need someone to look at it. Talk to us more about how your tank drains to the sump

sounds like drain line may have a small goose neck like bend where air can get trapped? Sounds like pressure is having to build before it clears. There should be no up and down bends in the drain line that would create an air pocket in the hose.

ok guys here is the best I can do

I hope the pics work... ok I belive that the drain is a 2 inch hose (looks like a vac cleaner hose) and the return is a 1 inch .. does that sound right ?

also this is a drilled tank no overflow boxes

I don't like how the drain is so bent upwards according to your drwaing. Ideally I think it should have a slight pitch downward into the sump. Water has to work too hard to drain causing the backup in your DT

Correct. Water wont drain uphill. Basically what you have created is a p-trap, which is good if you're trying to prevent sewer gas from backing up, not so much for this application.

Your drain should be a straight shot. Going down, then up again is going to cause you problems.

You want to do your best to stay away from 90 degree bends on a drain line. Aquariums or otherwise.

so basically I am going to have to drop the sump to the floor I guess.. so much for a display refuge.. :( oh well
