Icedearth's 60G Cube Build

To start, I bought a brand new Marineland Rimless 60G Cube from Aquapros. I wasn't a fan of the stand they made for it, so I decided to build my own and build a storage cabinet to go behind it. The cabinet will store my electronics, my ATO, and all my other random things.

To start, the new tank.

2x4s cut out for the frame. Also I began priming the boards with Kilz primer.

The skin of the stand will be made out of 1/2" Birch plywood. I got the plywood from Owl Lumber. This will also be used for the cabinet behind the tank. A total of two sheets for it all.

Started making the frame. Attached a sheet of 1/2" plywood to the bottom to help stabilize it and remove any issues. Next photo is me screwing in the upright supports. I have been using the pocket screw system.

Last two pictures are of the finished frame. The second picture is after painting the inside with gloss latex paint.

I'll continue to keep updating this as I make more progress. I have 25lbs of Pukani dry rock curing in my basement right now. And I'll be working on plumbing the sump and return manifold tomorrow. I plan on doing a lot of fun things with this setup.

Looks like it is going to be a nice setup!!! I am going to be working on setting up a 65Gallon Rimless this weekend myself. What are you planning on for the system? Lights, skimmer etc....

I'm going to be using a lot of my equipment from my 75g that I am tearing down. Lighting will be an IT2040 LED fixture, skimmer is an Eshopps S-120, water flow will be a Gyre XF-130 and a Mag 9.5 return. The return will run into a manifold for reactors and to cut down on the flow. May replace the lights with a different fixture down the line, or may go to T5s.

Progress has been very slow on this due to weather, a busy schedule, tool issues, etc. So this was one of my last progress photos which is a sketchup of the inside-back panel, which will house the holes for the cabling between the cabinets. Once I get home from vacation I will be putting this project into high gear to try and finish it.
