If you could run one piece of non essential equipment what would it be?

I always ask people. If you could run one piece of equipment besides sump, skimmer, light, and flow what would you choose? Carbon reactor? GFO? 2 part doser? Bio pellets? Kalk reactor? I've always just dosed 2 part but I'm interested to hear what other people like to keep their parameters in check.

big fan of carbon , helps keep water clear and helps couple other of our equipment along the way skimmer, light penetration ......

Auto top off for sure. Keep things stable, plus you can do all your ca/alk dosing through that too. I also wouldn't say skimmer should be included in the essentials above. Even if it was removed from the list I would still pick ATO.

I'd probably run a webcam two to be exact.. One monitoring the tank and the other to monitor the sump/fuge/ato/doser pump

Yea I've been leaning towards ATO with 2 part.

ATO! The last time I ran my tank without one....it drove me crazy ...I will NEVER run a tank without one.

I'd say ATO as well - I ran my tanks for the longest time topping off manually. I'll spend hundreds of dollars at a time on coral but never wanted to pay ~$80 for an ATO...best thing ever - not only does it help with tank salinity/stability but I don't have to constantly add water every day (120g DT, so winter-time it evaporates several gals per day)

I'd also say ato, but the ato tank needs to be the right size. I had a gravity fed 6 gallon jug as an ato for over a year. It lasted two days in the winter. I recently got a legit ato with 25 gal tank. Now I can go over a week without dragging out the rodi hose and mixing up kalk.

+1.....would never consider running a reef without an ATO or some kind of freshwater replenishing system....SG consistency is a necessity imo....

ATO FTW. I was pissed at myself for manually topping off for the first year after I set my ATO up.
