Installing fans in stand

I have a deep blue 48x24 stand and was wanting to install some exhaust and intake fans to keep humidity down inside the cabinet. I have 4 120mm pc fans and was intending on using all four. Will I be compromising the integrity of stand by drilling large holes like that in the stand? I've never had a stand before that was a 2x4 frame (or some derivative of that) skinned in plywood. Previously I wouldn't worry about drilling out holes for the fans bc the plywood sides weren't responsible for the major load bearing, but with this type of stand I'm just unsure.

I currently just leave the cabinet doors open and it's really starting to get annoying!

Awesome!! Thanks Ted!!! Been looking for some like this but I couldn't find anything at local PC parts stores.

^^^ has nothing to do with humidity evacuation.......

Anyway. I got these from Amazon for my canopy, they are only 5v but you could easily replace them with 12v fans for more movement (in or out) if you wanted. Keeps my tank temp constant and my T5 bulbs dry. The metal plate is also very nice and blends in really well with my black canopy.

Ted, thanks for sharing. If I wanted to put one of these on each side of my canopy could I reverse the direction of one of them so, for instance, I could have the fans on the left side blowing air in and the fans on the right blowing out?

Ted nice idea and thanks for sharing... I am with Eric on the question do u know if we can reverse flow as to use it to exhaust enclosure into garage for example?

Yep, like Joe said, you can just flip the fans over. They have dual and single grates. For you large tank guys they also offer a 120mm dual model. Depending on application you can, and probably should, swap out the fans for some 12v fans to move more air.

You can get them straight from their website too. www.acinfinity.com

I exclusively run the 110VAC version of their fans on the fish and frog tanks. Been using them for more than 3 years in the humidity without a single failure. Great fans IMO.

I also have a deep blue 48x24 stand. i think mine is a series 2 and not sure if its different between the 2 series but i have 4 hole on the back of the stand for power cables in and out. I think I will end up only using 2 of them. Does your stand have those? If so could you free up 2 of them and just put fans over them?

just don't drill the 2x4 load bearing supports. drilling the panel should be fine.
this stand isn't a 2x4 frame it's similar to a plywood stand design. My point was if it was a 2x4 stand I wouldn't worry about drilling large holes in the sides bc they aren't load bearing.

I have the same exact stand. The series 2. I was thinking about that but the cable holes are much smaller than the fans so I wouldn't be fully utilizing the fans.

Get a hole saw and drill them out. If they are just in the paneling it is not an issue at all.

cut a hole in the side door and the other side and i think you will be fine (i can understand the concern tho) With there already being hole in the back for the cables I can't see them effecting the integrity of the stand, what about making them larger?

Also if you look on the stand the i know there are like 1x4 supports in the back and there is an extra support on the right by the door. I don't remember seeing extra support on the left side however.

2 fans on the front doors? I know might be an eye sore but i'm sure you can make it look good. Add some LED's behind it and make it glow like some Computer towers have behind the fans?

That's not a bad idea. There is a side door and that might be less obvious than the front doors especially with the fans in the link that was posted earlier

if it were me (and hell I might do this) i would look at making the pre existing holes larger first and then look at the doors. we know the doors are not load bearing.

Also maybe call/email Deep blue and get there opinion.

also just wondering since we are talking about the same stand, what sump are you running? did you have to put it in from the top or were you able to fit it in the side door?

I ran a 20 long and it fit like a glove through the side door. And ya I'll start with the back holes blowing air out and later on add door fans to circulate cool air in. Or do you think it'd be better to have one blowing in and another out? The goal is to keep humidity down.

i would probably point both out. Its not an air tight box so you don't need to pull more air in, it will find its way in. Grab one of those digital indoor/outdoor thermometers that read humidity as well and play around with it. I say the indoor outdoor ones so you can have one sensor in the stand and one sensor in the room so you can see the different humidity levels

Do you use their high or low speed ones? How's the noise from them?

I also found them on Amazon and they are Prime eligible. Same price I think but at least free shipping.
