Japanese Garden Progress

Awesome! I've been researching ponds like crazy, I'm on the fence if I should do it or not...

Did you start it from scratch or are you rebuilding an existing one?

The previous owner was actually in the middle of building a jacuzzi or pool and didnt finish lol so i turned it into a pond. I Added some Tarp and rocks. So im actually still new at this and still have lots to read up on. More progress pics coming soon and hopefully it will help you get set up as well.

Definitely tagging along in this thread. I'm curious what you're budget is to get it running? I'm worried it's just going to be another expensive hobby. Browsing forums it looks like people are spending 5 to 10k to get one going, but then you see on Amazon full kits with good reviews for cheap as hell.

Its actually not too bad. Once you dig the hole, add the tarp and put surrounding rocks with piping, your set. I spent way more on reef stuff. If you want the standard Koi fish, they sell 10 for $100.

Reefcartel I hope you don't really mean tarp and that you are actually using epdm liner with an underlayment. Make sure to go atleast 2ft deep as well to help the koi survive the winter. Don't forget to put in a cove or hiding spot for your koi to swim into to protect them against predators like herons and raccoons. You can buy an entire pond kit complete with waterfall and skimmer for less than $1500 not including rocks. That will include your liner, underlayment, waterfall/biofalls, skimmer box, and all necessary plumbing.
