hello fellow reefers, i go by the name niko and im sorta new to this site in the way i haven't properly introduced my self. i have met with a couple of you guys from here, either for a freebie or buying a frag or two. So i decided to finally let you guys know a little bit about my and my interest in this hobby. i have been wanting a reef for a bout half an year before i actually decided getting one. of course before diving into this hobby i did some little research but was not aware of how expensive it might be so i decided to save a few bucks and do "dyi" stuff some things. my sump/refugium was one of them as well as the pvc overflow. When i first set up my first tank (55g) bout two years ago i made a crucial mistake of using tap water. it was doing ok at first, till i tried adding some corals, most of them died just the pom poms and zoas made it. So i decided to start over using RoDi water instead and been using it ever since. this time setting it up in the living room instead of my room where it was previously was. my only mistake in that decision was that i have sky windows in the living room and about half an year into it, my algae was getting out of control. i would literally have to scrub the tank once a day. till i decided enough was enough and brought it back into my room, this time down grading it into a 20g. this time all the corals survived. i have had this 20g system running for about an year. it mainly started out with softies and zoas but then wanted to get into sps. so i decided to start dosing and for about 5 months i kept up with manually dosing the 2-part. i was having great color and growth. Then it happened. i started getting lazy and was having trouble keeping up with the dosing so eventually my sps died. at this point i was frustrated and wanted to sell everything but instead i save up some money and bought 3 pumps that would make it easier in this hobby. 2 dosing pumps and a ATO unit. having these pumps have made reef keeping easier and have made it possible keeping sps. About 5 month ago after looking at my tank and wishing i had more room i decided to upgrade to my old 55g again which is the tank i now have running. since the upgrade i have added a couple of more corals to the system and it has been running smoothly. out of all 3 tanks ive had i like this one the best and looking foward to see the corals grow. thank you for reading my introduction and hopefully i get to meet new reefers in or around my area. thanks and happy reefing.
