Lemec Elos 70

So I figure it's abou time I posted my tank here after being a long time lurker on the boards. I've had the tank up and running for almost ten months now. This is my first go at a predominately SPS tank, I've kept tanks on and off again since 1996, but always easy to keep softies and lps. I started the tank with GHL Mitras 6200 led lights, but I had issues with finding the right balance and just ended up bleaching everything, so I recently went back to the tried and true T5 with LED blue supplements..,I wonder if the spectrum is a bit too blue to get the best color out of my SPS? I welcome comments and constructive criticism.

Display: Elos 70 29.5" x 22.5" x 19.75"
Sump: standard three chamber that came with the tank, not an Elos designed one. Thinking of changing out to a Bashsea one
Skimmer: Royal Exclusive Double Cone 150
Return: Waveline DC
Dosing: GHL Doser 2 (still haven't hooked it up yet, still fine tuning additives)
Controller: GHL Profilux 3 with touch
Flow: Gyre 150, Tunze 6040, MP40w (none are at full speed lol)
Lighting: ATI sun power 8 bulb 24"(back to front: blue plus, coral plus, blue plus, aquablue special, purple plus, blue plus, coral plus, blue plus) with two SBreefs blue led strip lights mounted to the outside.

Livestock (fish): Earlie Wrasse, pair of Bali Aquarich clowns, Venustus Angel, Citron Goby, White Line Goby.
Coral...This one is evolving lol...provided I keep the frags from Hung and Sawdonkey alive, I have a good mix of SPS, some Rastas and Eagle Eye zoas, and a couple mushrooms. I have three head of green torch coral and a bright LPS button coral that's recovering from bleach out from my LEDs
Rock: I started with Marcos rock and put an acrylic rod through the island on the left side of the tank. I used some seed rock that unfortunately came with a couple of bubble coral and some caulerpa on it, so I'm constantly picking it out to keep it from spreading. Still kinda mad at myself for not spotting it on the pieces I added!

nice setup, looks like you went with quality compents all the way through.

HH like the caulpura always happen, great looking tank. You're attention to details shows.

What made you find the chicago forum in NW ohio?

I moved from Los Angeles where they're were a lot involved in the hobby...out here, in NW Ohio there aren't as many, nor are they really into the more expensive set ups and livestock. Brian, at Reefwise is what drew me to this forum. I come out here to check out the various places and obviously there are people out here with great tanks to buy frags from, lol.

yeah, not many places in the US are like the saltwater scene in socal. Brian is a great guy, chewing the fat with him at the store is a fond past time but I don't get to much anymore.

So a bit of an update...redoing all the rock work and sump....I picked up a small piece of rock from my LFS that was a Caribbean piece...it had a bit of macro algae on it, no big deal right!? Well, it went sexual and after four months of hand harvesting it and trying what I could to contain it, I've decided to just cook it all and start with all fresh stuff...it has gotten everywhere. So here is my proposed new layout for rock...what do you guys think? Any suggestions (besides don't buy rock there again)...

Used eggcrate to grid out the space in the tank so I can play around with options...here was one other attempt.

I like the first one, but I think the right rock structure should be turned out more

I like the first scape and really like that sump. Keep us posted on how it is going.
The sump is from Bashsea and is awesome. It's built like a tank and was very well thought out by the company. I just told them my skimmer size and that I wanted a sump for an Elos 70 with a fuge. That was the result!

+1 on the first scape. Second is too complex. The first slants up nicely so you'll be able to layer your corals.

The rock is from ARC Reef, Atlantic Reef Conservation out of Florida...The seed the rock themselves in the non-gulf side, so there is almost no macro algae....I made a request there be none what so ever. The rock doesn't have the same great shapes that some of the dry stuff does, but I had problems with dry rock leaching phosphates and I could never get the hair algae under control in my old tank. The color is OK...I have an unboxing video, although it's very poorly done, lol. The weird thing is, the rock is sweet smelling and has almost no die off, very short cycling/curing.

hmmm it looks like dry rock in the picture though ??

Ya, I had it in a very low light curing tub for four weeks...there's purplemthere, it's just very muted at the moment...like I said, it's nothing like the live rock from 20 years ago, but it is live and not the painted stuff...as I did my reasearch, I found that depending on how they "dried" the rock and how it was stored, can really affect what it leaches out.
