Lighting for a new 90 gallon SPS

Guys,

I am seriously thinking about building a new 90 gallon build. And am shopping around for lighting options. I have no experience with MH only HOT5. For this kind of build should I go T5 or LED ? Would the CC-120 work for this build, or am I better biting the bullet and going MH ?

I cant speak about the benefits of LED or MH as I have no experience with either. However, I do have a 90 gallon with T5 lighting. T5 bulbs can provide enough lighting for any reef tank. I like that you can swap out bulbs for different color temperatures to change up the look. I also like that they run relatively cool so there is no need for a chiller.

No matter what you decide... there have been many successful aquariums using any of the three lighting options!

Whichever option you choose will work, just be sure to get enough of whichever lighting you want. We have quite a few threads on LEDs, and what to look for on here. Metal Halides will definitely work, look great, but there's the whole heat/energy/bulb cost - but they still are fantastic IMO. There are a couple being sold used for quite cheap right now. Personally, if you're on a tight budget, I'd say either T5 or MH (just because so many are being unloaded for really cheap nowadays). For a 90g SPS you would likely want 2 CC-120s. Jimmy is a nice guy and can help you decide on that too. Good luck with the build!
