Lighting FOWLR tank options

I have a 55g FOWLR tank setup. I am planning to transition to a reef tank sometime down the road. I'm asking for advice as to what to upgrade to for a FOWLR now that will be able to also to be used for a reef.

I've got a current nova 4x39w T5-HO with 6 bulbs. 4 are 2 month old ATI bulbs you could save until you upgrade to a reef, and 2 stock 10000k & actinic bulbs you could throw in on one channel to use for fowlr lighting in the meantime. It's 36" wide and has legs so you would need a couple shims to stand it over the tank but it would provide plenty of useable light over a 55. Or if you have glass lids you could just set the light on the lids, its very lightweight. Only asking $180 for the whole setup, including the shims needed to mount the light if you need them.

I learned the hard way, just buy what you want NOW. It'll save you time and money. Do the research, get the best for your budget, and then you'll just have overkill for a while. I really recommend LED, whether PAR38 bulbs or fixtures, and I have had great success with my Ecoxotics. All the usable power of an LED fixture for half the price of AIs or Radions, multiple options, expandable, and customizable. Nothing against the other ones, but I can grow anything I want and spent half as much.

Check out my PAR38 LED bulbs on my website http://www.coralcompulsion.com

They are pretty reasonably priced, and will certainly support a reef tank later on. You can also start with pretty much any type of fixture you want since they are standard screw in bulbs. Or, I offer a $10 discount on any bulb and my custom lamp clamp fixture combo on my site.

Look through the forums for Trackfast's led upgrade. He put 4 of my 27w bulbs over his 55g hung from cheap ikea hanging fixtures, and it looked great. That should give you an idea of how it would look.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Thanks.
