So I'm asking this because I have had this in the past and just threw away the rock, but I have a friend that wants to know.

He left some live rock in a bucket and same water for about 3 days and bucket was closed.

Now he went to open the bucket and YIKES it was wreaking havoc with just a super bad odor.

My question no goes, Is that rock Salvageable? I've thrown away rock like that because I have done that before on accident/carelessness.

If salvageable what should be done to save it?

Thanks Guys!!!

I've never personally experienced it before, but if you take the rock out, put it in fresh saltwater, and make sure to have a powerhead and heater in there, then you should still have a decent amount of bacteria on the rock.

Ok well he did take it out, and put it on the deck in the back of his house.....its out there now, so I'll have to tell him to do that when he comes back home from work....hopefully it should still be good.

It's still useful...he'll just have to cycle it again. That smell was just from the die-off and the ammonia spiking.
