Live rock

So i took down a tank with about 100 lbs of live rock and I have them kept them in a few buckets the same tank water. I may need to keep them in here for a couple months. What would you suggest I do to keep them in well condition for my next build? should i continue with Waterchanges in the bucket or should i bleach them down and kill off everything back to Dry rock? What are your methods of curing or acid treatments? View attachment 3214

are you keeping water moving with ph and a heater for stable temps ? if so and not concerned about anything you may have had in the tank broken down keep it alive , if concerned you can kill everything on the rock and use as dry . i would acid dip , rinse in ro , and call it done . let dry out and use when needed .

yea with out movement its gonna be nasty. no light will cause some die off as well. i used muraic acid which is rough stuff , but can also use vinegar with longer soak and its cheap enough. couple 24hr soaks will be same thing i think.

Hmmm thanks Lunacris. I have tons of Distilled white vinegar. Should I dilute the vinegar with RO? How much Acid or vinegar do should I use? Ive never done that before i used to throw live rock in my tanks directly from LFS. lol

most of us have , i have a thread on the acid search cooking live rock . as far as vinegar goes think its 100%vinegar but would have to look that up or wait for someone whos used it . jrpark22000

Vinegar straight up, no dilution. It'll foam for the first hour or so, but it'll weaken soon enough as the pH raises.

After the first 30 min or so, I like to take the rock out and spray it with high pressure water in the laundry tubs to remove the loose stuff, The vinegar will have loosened it. This will speed up the process. Just toss the rock back in the vinegar after the rinse and change when the pH raises too much.
