there is a lot happening in my tank lately and this is causing me to worry

1. my hawk fish dies all of a sudden for no reason.... it ate to its heart content on the previous night and found dead next morning ..

2. my jaw fish which is a very picky eater disappeared and not seeing for 3 days got worried and took out all rock and inspected every corner of the aquarium ..cant find it or its body.. its got no way to escape .

im sure i clearly saw each and every hole of every rock and even raked up all sand ..

3. lately im finding my snails and hermit crabs dead . ... i can see my cleaner shrimp or my peppermint shrimp devouring on them .. i got like 4 turbo snails and now only one is alive .. got like 5 nassarius snails and have 3 alive .. got like 12 hermit crabs and can see 5 or 6 ..

and now today i am seeing an ammonia spike of 0.2 for the first time .. :(

this is totally frustrating to me .. what is happening with my aquarium and what should i do to get it into control

please help

Is there enough for the clean up crew to eat? How much LR is in there? when was your last water change and at what %?

i always do 5 gallon water change every two weeks .. was supposed to do last sunday but didnt ..so last water change is about 18 days ago

cleanup crew ..yea i started with a lot more cleanup crew but turbo snails and some hermits are dead ..dont know why ..

live rock i have about 28 lbs in a 29 gallon biocube ..

I would recommend doing a water change immediately. A larger one is better, maybe 10 gals? Also, what is your filtration on this tank?

I understand this is a frustrating time, but take a breath and ease the mind. My 29 biocube crashed 2 months back and im bouncing back myself, stress only made me act out of impulse making things worse.

Hope this helps, Wiz.

Sometimes you can never figure out what is going on. However, an ammonia spike is no good after a tank has cycled. I'd do a large wc asap (30%). Have you tested your other param's? It's kind of hard to render any advice if we don't know the whole picture...

Generally speaking, if something funky happens in one of my tanks I do 2 things, a large wc and a big bag of fresh carbon...

I dont' think it's good to be raking through you sand once your tanks been up for awhile... that might've caused the ammonia spike.

are you running a skimmer? My skimmer usually takes care of any dead fish or snails in my tank. Most of the time my CUC eats the dead snails before i get a chance to grab them.

but as people said before, do a large water change and go from there... Have you thought of maybe you have a pest or diesese floating around, causing the fish to die?

all other corals are completely fine ..

except for the green palys which i never had success with

other than that one palys everything else is good .. i even have an sps nirdsnest i beleieve which is completely fine

also my nitrate is zero ..

no my only other fish that died is jaw fish but it never eats much so im guesing thats the reason it died .. i inspected my flame angel yesterday throurogly and cant spot anything weird ..

You are using r/d water right? This is summer and Chicago spikes the city water with extra chemicals to kill off the Asian Carp.
