Today I finally figured out why my forays into Macro photography have been a mess. I'm using a Sony E-mount macro tube and various lenses. Many of my shots were oddly distorted and just wouldn't focus. Some were fine, but most were just weird. I asked around for some advice and got nothing useful.
When in doubt, keep shooting!
I'm glad I did, because I finally figured out the commonality in my failures! I'm not sure if this is a problem with my camera setup, or macro photography in general, but the lenses do not like trying to shoot through glass and water at a sharp angle. Keeping the angle between the lenses and subject is key, with edge-on shots coming out perfect! I'd share a shot, but I'm still under the 5 post limit... so you'll have to to take my word for it!
