Wow, I tried mangroves maybe 10 years ago... I wondered why they would never stay alive in my tank.
Never knew they had to be acclimated from fresh to saltwater... DUH. Thanks.

Oh i bought from him bunch of time his mangroves r nice and they even r grown under lower light so they do great in the fuge and cheap as heck

Can anyone with mangrove experience share their view on misting the leaves daily(as indicated by seller)?

I ask because I'd like to put some in a basement located sump, and they'd be lucky to get misted weekly.

I have mine in a basement sump and maybe I'm overly attached to my tank but I check my sump every day lol which means my mangroves get sprayed almost every day. I always check water level, skimmer, ato and frag tank daily in my basement.

But as a side note, don't expect them to help very much if any unless u are buying a ton of them. I keep 15 in my sump and I highly doubt it does anything to my nutrients. Only reason I bought them is cause they look cool lol

This. It would take damn near a forest of these things at the size we use them to make up for a sandwich baggie of chaeto.

they do look very Cool and been told repeatedly by different stores/reefers 1 mangrove will do the work of a baseball size piece of Chaeto
carry on ...

They recommend 3 Xs per week with a spray bottle to get the salt off the leaves that's expelled thru the leaves . when you come out of the ocean after a nice swim you wash the salt of your skin so you don't burn.

"For all my love for keeping these plants, however, I must admit that they truly are not comparatively efficient nutrient export mechanisms. It's a very simple matter. Growth overall is slow, and leaf drop is often concurrent with new leaf growth. The net gain of mass from these plants is, in fact, dismally slow, and leaf drop alone (as a vehicle for nutrient export) cannot compare to a vigorous Chaetomorpha or Gracilaria based vegetable filter."

"But, on the other hand, regarding the nutrient export capacity of some mangrove plants living on the upper zone of our reef tank, we should not expect miracles. They are slow-growing plants, and their nutrient uptake is limited. To say it clearly: if we have the problem of exporting phosphates and/or nitrates from our tank, due to over-feeding, insufficient foam fractionation, etc, we will certainly not be able to solve it by planting mangroves. Having mangroves in the tank just helps to make the man-made biotope a little more natural, in function and appearance. If we try to create something we call a "mini reef," we should take every opportunity to employ natural mechanisms. Even though their functional contribution to the system is relatively small, it makes our "mini reef" a bit more natural."

Mine were right in front of my face i never sprayed em grew like weeds had to keep cutting them . I cant tell u if they pull out lot if crap but they looked cool and tank ran good . To each there own i dont use cheato i use calupera does it work any better who knows they both work its just my prefrence. Mangrivea r cool and at that price who cares i was paying little iver a dollar each . As lfs sell for like 6/7 dollars each

That's what I was wondering Joe, in their natural habitat they dint have someone misting them. Yeah it rains once in a while but it could be weeks between rains. What's the reason in home aquariums
