Matt's 60G Reef Tank

Hello, I figured I'd get all my info and pictures gathered in to a thread here.

We moved in to our new house in January 2015 and I was working from home occasionally. I felt that our study/office needed something along the one wall and wasn't sure what I'd put there. After seeing that PetSmart had their 60 Gallon tank on sale in February, I pulled the trigger and then told the wife about it. I didn't do anything with the tank for another few months, since we were still getting settled in the house and had our first child. At the middle of July I picked up some of the other items - light, skimmer, heater, etc. Got my water mixed up and it looked like this for a month.

At that point, I got some rock from snelly98 and picked up a blue damselfish. it stayed like this for a while to ensure things went well.

Since everything was going well, I got some clowns from jeffy and some green star polyps from ajreefer721. I picked up some additional rocks from Marco Rocks. The coraline algae really started growing as well.

I battled with some Dino, and a mix of lights off and raising the PH seemed to do the trick. Luckily I caught it before it got too bad. I got some chaeto from Captain and some frags from Top Water. I just added a Purple Firefish that my wife picked out this past weekend. I'll have to get a current picture tonight and add it here. Thanks to everybody here, I'm now addicted to this new hobby and visit Chicago Reefs way too often :)

I found a decent sized rubbermaid container, but haven't moved forward with it yet. You're still on my list for that overflow, though!

Sadly came home tonight to find the firefish didn't survive. Odd because he was eating this morning.

Got my RODI system today, will be easier than going to Meijer for their water machine every week.

How does everybody collect their water?

You're gonna love your own rodi unit. I collect filtered water in a brute 32gallon, on wheels, which I then pump upstairs into a second brute on wheels.

I use a 45 gallons brute with a float valve. The pressure that builds with the float valve triggered the pressure switch for my booster pump and cuts off the water. I don't trust it enough to leave it running while I'm at work, but it hasn't failed me yet.

I have a Y-splitter on my washing machine faucet that feeds my RODI. The wastewater goes right down the washing machine drain pipe. I have a long hose on the RODI that can be pulled all the way to my tank to fill the ATO or to my brute for a water change.

Picked up this shrimp and diamond goby last night. Goby was hiding this morning under the rocks so I couldn't get a good picture.
Thanks mvpttk !

Here is a bit better picture of the shrimp and where he normally hangs out.

I also got a frag rack, so obviously I want more frags!!

Hows the tank coming along?

Good, wife has been working a lot so I haven't had as much time to do anything with it as I've been spending more time with my daughter. Knock on wood, no problems and everything seems to be doing well. Just need to do a decent clean of everything.

I completely understand the no time thing, I don't like to mess with the tank other than WC n cleaning or fixing something.
