Mayhem

so I know lots out there don't care that's why they call it counter culture but here was how mayhem went, at least some of it. first off I got a pick from machine head highlight of my day, one of my favorite bands. zombie was good i was a little disappointed in five finger. ivan had a solder on stage cancer patients and kids, but security wouldn't let the guy next to me's kid. none of which is bad just a little to everyone loves puppies for me from a metal band. overall grate day as always. and if you have gone to mayhem you know what I mean. it is kind funny in phoenix it is about twice the people and twice as hardcore, but they play metal on the radio so that kinda says it all. zombie used the most animatronics I have every seen. every song was something new like watching a movie or theater, he never stops moving, and is a true performer even if you don't care for the music. I have seen him 3 times now and the only thing I had seen befor was the robot from more human than a human. here is some pics. o and the pic of the guy with the guitar to his face was playing the star spangled banner with his teeth. I also got pics with the zombie's truck from counting cars, it was bad ace, they just aren't on my comp yet. this is not to brag or anything else just figured I would share with fellow metal heads. the machine head pick part that was bragging, lol

o zombie also crowd surfed while singing and you could tell because it would get choppy. the than walked around the whole place to be with the fans I almost smacked his hand but security got me. he did it while a guitar solo was going on so nobody was expecting it. I seen him coming and jumped a rail. was pretty kewl.

I figured if they don't they won't read it but it was awesome none the less. to me you have to see him in person to realize the production he puts on.

Well that explains a lot. Thanks for sharing! Didn't know head-bangers were calling themselves "counter culture" now. Semantically that's sort of like saying "reverse racism" but whatever. The robots look cool.

to me it depends on how hard it is you would not have seen slayer at lalapaluza I know I spelt it wrong, lol. but I still get the looks when I blast them. most people have never heard of hate breed. and the biggest guys still tell me in crazy or stupid for getting in the pit.

metal of today is not yesterdays metal. ask the older guys they don't like the growling and screaming

Man so mad i couldn't go 1st one i missed love the fest as well as the music me being a musician myself i wish i could of seen machine head!

I was there saturday. Wasn't as good as last year's, but it was still a solid Mayhem. I was very annoyed that five finger death punch was 2nd to last band on main stage, they should be at lolla not mayhem, I left before they started playing. Amon Amarth was my personal favorite choice, very closely followed by Job for a Cowboy, then Machine Head.

I've been listening to metal for almost my entire life. I kind of get annoyed when people complain that today's metal is not like the metal from 20 years ago. Of course it isn't. It's evolved. Metal of today is influenced by the metal of the past, and has made it much more. Don't get me wrong, I still love Maiden, Sabbath, Motorhead, Anthrax, etc. But today's metal is what I have been able to relate to the most.

I was there and had a blast. The side stages were awesome. It was great that they were next to each other and you did not have to wait for the next band to start.

That's probably the best way to do it. I still think they should have like a 20-30 minute break in between the last band on the side stages and the first band on the main stage. So many times have I had to leave the last side band early to see the main stage.

Yeah that was the only annoying part. They should have had 10-15 minutes at least so you could walk over there.

they have more than one said stage at a time also so you have to pick which band. 5fdp is one of my favorite band but he doesn't lie when he says he's buying in. if they keep heading that way I wont be a fan any more. last year was the first mayhem I missed, but this year was better than the one before. it is also a lot calmer crowd here. in phoenix they always put the two stages next to one another but they don't play till the other stopped. than it was like a man rush of cattle over to the next stage. now a days there is so many different types of metal that's why I still say counter culture. you have rock, metal, metal core, grind core. it is every ones choice but most is not main stream. I wish jasta had been there. but for me the best band was machine head. there wasn't even realy a pit during white knuckles. the first time I seen 5fdp on a side stage one guy got his elbow shattered and another his knee ripped out. I not in it for people getting hurt I guess it's just a bigger scene. it is hard to go wrong with mayhem. Amon Amarth kinda suprized me that it was that good.

This was the first mayhem I missed. I think two or three years ago maybe, they had almost the same lineup. Rob zombie, 5fdp. I wasn't that impressed with 5fdp at the time either. The rob zombie pics and show you posted was identical to the one he did a few years back. Sam tronics, maybe a few more, same going through the crowd and same guitar solo with the teeth. All of it was awesome.

I just found out that Avenged is playing in October, opening their tour here in Chicago. I can't wait for that!

Nothing against zombie but y are they bringing the same headliner 5 finger donkey punch bak every other year?

Only Mayhem I missed was 2010, which had a lot of bands I'm glad I didn't see. Luckily Mayhem isn't like warped tour where you have to choose a band to see, Mayhem allows you to see them all.

Other than that, the festival has had a great history of bands. With the decline in many good metal festivals in the US, it's nice still having one to rely on. However, if they keep giving bands like five finger death punch aka sell out radio bands more play time than other bands that greatly deserve it, I won't be going anymore.
