Mean Puca Fish!

I saw the episode of that trip on animal planet. Pretty cool show. Apparently the fisheries service wanted to add a food fish for the natives so chose the Pacu. The lake they introduced them in had huge floating islands made completely of underwater plants. The pacus are omnivores but typically only feed on vegetation. The floating islands disappeared within a year or two and native fish started declining because the fry didn't have any safe sanctuary to hide and grow in. It was a pretty cool episode nonetheless because it is one example of an invasive species causing devastation to the local fish populations and habitat. Similar to what we're experiencing here with the asian carp, except the carp reproduce at a much quicker rate. Like cockroaches of the fish world lol!
