Mia fish assumed dead

I was away all day today and when I got back my wife mentioned that my bicolor dotty back didnt look good earlier when she saw him. By the time I got home I couldn't find him and assume he is dead somewhere in the tank. I looked as best I could and moved some of the easier rock to move but i can't find him. If he is indeed dead somewhere in the tank will that likely cause a big issue with ammonia if I can't recover his body? It's a 125 g. tank and I really don't want to have to take all the rock out if I can't find the body.

looking for advice...thanks

That small a fish will be no issue in a 125. If you have cleanup crew and good skimmer you'll never know he died.

+1. You could wait a couple days and do a normal water change if it will put your mind at ease though.sorry to hear about your loss btw.

It happened again!!! Was away for the weekend and came back and I have another missing fish. A anthias maybe 3" long. This time in my frustration and annoyance I took out and examined every single piece of rock in the tank and no sign whatsoever of either fish. I mean I was only gone for a weekend and although my son doesn't recall whether he saw the fish over the weekend when he was feeding them, can a fish totally vanish in a weekend? I don't have a professional cleaning crew in there that cleans up after mob hits or anything, so where's the body? I also sifted through the sand as best I could once the rock was out thinking that maybe it was dead and buried in the sand somewhere, but no sign of it. My water readings are okay, but this is starting to have that spooky alien abduction feel to it...

Can it be stuck in a rock? I had that happen in a freshwater tank. I've also had them disappear that fast when there are enough cannibals in the tank. Every living thing in the world eats fish.
