Monti cap growth

My Red and green monticaps are growing nicely but are growing down instead of up like I usually see. My red has grown under itself and the green is starting to do the same thing. Both are encrusting the rocks but never shoot up. Is this likely a flow issue or a lighting issue?

Its probably flow. Maybe you have to much flow hitting the top of it causing it to grow down.

This has continued even more. Now, the monti cap has grown all the way under itself and fused together. All of the white growth edges are touching and there is only a dime sized hole left. Where will it grow once that is filled in? I mixed up my flow a bit and tried turning down the white channel on my LEDs. This isn't really a problem as it is obviously growing, but I wish it would at least grow up and out so I could enjoy the growth.

Very true. It's a tough angle to get a shot under the monti cap, but I'll see what I can do tonight.

Here are the pics. I don't think the problem is flow cuz i've mixed it up with no change. I also have a piece of green on the other side of the tank that is doing the same thing. Lighting?
