My first 150 gallon Tall

Welcome! I think that they call this a 150 Long not Tall. Build looks good! I would use a sand substrate. :wel1:

Nice tank I would use sand also crushed coral holds detritus. Also in the forth or fifth picture you have some bright sun light shining on the tank watch that for algae outbreaks.

You might be thinking that it is too late to get the crushed coral out of there but it will be a whole lot easier to do it now than after the tank is stocked. I made the mistake of doing crushed coral once and wasn't able to control my nitrates.

Think of it as taking 2 steps back to go 10 steps forward.

Also, welcome to the board :)

P.S. When I had crushed coral and removed it, I found the best way was to scoop out as much as I could by putting a strainer bowl at the bottom and scooping it into the strainer. The small amount left over was removed by syphoning out the water with a hose.

Votts, was there any particular reason you went with cc? Not trying to tell you what to do, because there are some instances where cc is preferable, but if you are going to have a reef its really not the best. I had cc in a FOWLR for 6 years and it was fine, but I didn't have to worry about my nitrates being all that high.

I wasnt sure what to do but my neighbor has 4 reef tanks and thats what he has in all his tanks.. His tanks all look amazing. maybe i will change it out if its needed.. im trying to figure out the deal with my protein skimmer now, its a pro clear aquatics 150 i believe.. the water bubbles are not making it to the collection cup for some reason. I have about 10" of water in the sump but it seems like the skimmer doesnt have enough water or power? im not sure but i thought the foam was supposed to go up the throat area and come down into the cup?

If there's no fish waste to pull out, then the bubbles won't thicken up and go into the collection cup. It only pulls stuff out if there's something to work on.

took a couple videos too, they might b a little shaky cause im using my Samsung Galaxy s 3:
