so just used egg crate and kite string made the opening big enough so fish werent affraid to go in put there favorite food on the other side sat on my couch far away from tank for finicky fish or by the tank for some fish that arent scared . they go in pull the string and they traped grab a net and scoop em out 123

yea i have video trying to up load again i built this while agao caught every fish i tryed to usually less then ten minutes. modified it with the clear netting that we use to make screen tops. so the small fish i can catch too now . made it to fit in the space i have so i dont have to disturb the rock and corals.

so simple and elegant. I love it and will be copying shortly. I think I'll do it across a corner because of the cube shape.

Sweet! I'm going to have to build one of these today! What re those awesome blue and orange damsels BTW?

Man that is a nice trap. I had a hard time last week getting a clarki out. Made a 2 liter bottle trap with food and could only catch my wrasse. Then I put his hosted bta in the trap and he was smart enough to stay out and started hosting with the baby of the bta. Then finally I used egg crate and moved a few rocks around, I caught him within 10 minutes.

Thats what is nice u can pick and chose when to shut the trap so if wrong fish goes ib not a big deal actually helps when other fish r swimming in and out if if makes all the fish less scared of it. Abd those damsels were cool for about a month once they grew turned all black so gave em back to global lol

How do you get the bottom to "hinge"?

its all one piece basically find a spot it will fit in cut a piece from top of tank to the bottom its gott be tight fit i put bottom in the sand and push it into the corner and use my glass cleaner mag for extra security. they i cut a hole in it at the height i thought the fish swam at and would be comfortable swimming into also wouldnt be in way of my corals. i made hole as wide as i could leaveing two squares on each end to make trap sturdy still then cut a door little bigger then opening and used the string three peices at the bottom of door and tied string to middle of door to use as pull string . had a hole in canopy from old temp sensor i put string through then i close canopy . if u fish is a jumper u can make a top too i just use a biger piece stick on top and put some rock on it until i get the net and grab the fish . i have plenty of string so i usually tie the pull string to the ball of string and sit on couch across room when fish goes in i just pull shut like a drw bridge and secure string so fish cant push open

That is a great design that can be adjusted for any fish size and choose which fish to catch without scaring them all. -Awesome idea :)

i use all the time works great had to moddify with clear mesh the smaller fish were sneaking out
