My Little Slice of Reef - JBJ 12

Just to give a little background about myself. I've been in the fishkeeping hobby for over 10 years now. I've been sticking with freshwater fish though. My first foray into saltwater was around black friday when I bought a Fluval Spec V and decided to make it saltwater.

This was the end result:

As with most people in this hobby, you eventually get the desire to upgrade. Well I knew I would eventually upgrade, but things pushed me into upgrading sooner. I got a 12 gallon nano cube for free. So I looked into what modifications could go into it. The first thing I did was look into upgrading the lights. I discovered the Steve's LEDs retrofit kit. It was a little pricey, but it came pre-assembled and fit right into the stock hood. Here's a shot of how it looks:

I then upgraded the stock pump to a Cobalt Aquatics MJ-900. I also bought a custom media rack from inTank.

I initially set up the tank with 10 pounds of live sand, and around 10 pounds of live rock.

A couple days later, I discovered we were having people at my house come to inspect our windows. And since my tank was in front of the window, it would have to be moved. So I pushed my migration to the new tank sooner than I had wanted. Luckily since everything was cured, and since I wasn't adding an actual bioload, I was able to move my livestock over without causing a cycle.

Here's a photo from the day of the move:

I tested my parameters around twice a day for the next week to make sure I never had a huge ammonia/nitrate boom, which I didn't, so I would consider the move a success.

Around a week later I then happened to find some good deals on some newer corals, so I jumped at it.

Here's my tank as of a couple days ago:

Thats awesome. Be careful with that clam. They are pretty sensative.

Yea I've read about them quite a bit, so I know they can be sensitive. It's been opening up fully without any gaping. It also likes to play hide and seek with one of my clowns.

And thanks everyone for the comments.
