My new 80 Deep blue rimless build

Hi guys, my move went smoothly so I decided to replaced my 75 gallon I had to sell prior to the move.

I went with the 80 gallon Deep blue rimless tank and stand. I really liked the footprint of the tank being 48x24 also my last acrylic tank was a pain to perform any tasks inside the tank.

Still need a ton of equipment for this tank

Have
x2 Jebao wp25
DC 6000 return
60+ lbs dry rock
sump
Eheim Jager 300 watt heater
60 lb live sand

want list
bubble magus curve 5 or 7. or the coralbox d500 or d700 skimmer still have yet to decide and need more research on
x2 coral revive t247 LED lights

A couple of days ago I installed a GCFI outlet right behind the tank. probably a good idea since I will be hanging the lights above the tank. Also made a fish net to prevent fish from flopping out of the tank still have a ton of netting left over if anyone needs some.

Just started the cycling process today. I bought 2 raw shrimp today and put them in a media sock inside the tank. I still have much work to do on the tank still need to plumb the overflow and return into the sump. The sump that came with the tank does not leave much room for a refugium, so I might plumb in a second tank next to it for the return pump.

I planned on plumbing a 10 gallon tank along side my sump. Has anyone had any luck drilling a 1 1/2 inch on a 10 gallon?

Still have much to learn in this hobby as my 75 tank never really did well and not much growth on corals.

As my tank is beginning to cycle when would be the appropriate time to add in the live sand and Live rock? I have not added it in yet because my heater just came in today. Also what temperature is everyone running their tanks at? I am going to aim for 78. I am looking to keep mostly LPS and some SPS frags.

Any information/feedback is appropriated! Thanks

Tagging along. I love the db tanks. If you get the coral box d700 I'd love to get some feedback on it after you've had it for awhile. Not sure about drilling the 10 gallon but someone will chime in either here or your other post. As for the LR and LS I put all mine in at the beginning just speeds cycle up ime. Most people look to keep their tank at 78.

Today I added 60 pounds of sand will see when it clears up how much more I need. I can already smell the shrimp hopefully the smell is not to bad.

I've noticed the just with Rodi water and Aquavitro Salinity salt the water seems quite murky even after a couple of days with the power head should I be worried about that? You can kind of tell in the first picture.

Tried to finish the plumbing to the sump as well and I keep getting leaks first it was the barb fitting to the plastic tubing for the return, then it was the overflow bulkhead hopefully I can get that fixed tomorrow so I can finish filling in water. Also I will probably wait to hard plumb the return until I figure out the additional sump option to put the return pump in either drill a 10 gallon or find a cheaper smaller sump.

Still deciding on the lights and the skimmer hopefully I can get both setup within the next two weeks.

Tank update. I have decided for the time being to go with 100% dry rock possibly seeding the tank with a cup full of established live sand. If anyone wants to give me some sand that would be great.

I went with the bubble magus curve 5 skimmer well see how it performs. Also bought 2 ocean Revive t247 and mounted them over the tank already.

I just installed the lights over the tank as of yesterday. I believe my ammonia levels are high enough for me to pull the decaying shrimp out.

When should I add some chaeto algae to my sump?

very nice looking setup. Plenty of open too for swimming too!

I don't think there is a wrong time to add cheato. It just won't do much growing until it has nutrients in the water to absorb.

Thanks yeah I like how everything turned out so far. Still cycling the tank. Took out the shrimp a couple days ago. No signs of any bacteria so far. Will probably be a long cycle with 100% dry rock

Tank has been up and running for a year now. Still have a lot to learn. I have been battling issues with my coral not being as colorful. Frogspawns not really growing. So far I came to the conclusion that my tank is nutrient deficient, I started feeding more turn off my phosphate reactor and skimming very low. My growth so far has been better and I can finally see some green come back in my birdsnests. I have been also dosing some fuel and acropower. Half recommend doses on both. Hopefully this year I can get better growth and colors.
