Hey, guys. I am planning on a new grow out. Approximately 200gal total. including 8 of the 20tall tanks and a 75gal sump(holds 40~50gal water). Some details havent been decided yet. Suggestions will be appreciated.!!!
the system including 3 layers. First two have 4 of the 20talls each. the bottom layer holds the sump.
for now, my main concern is the sump design. im going to put a lot of fish in it. so i need my sump to be very efficient.
all my previous sump designs are with the same order. first section: skimmer/ second section: media, rock, refugium / third section: return pump. However, i have seen a lot people put bio media at first, then the refugium and the skimmer at the end. which order do you guys think is better, and why???

im going to do the plumbing tmrw and monday, i will upload some pics then.!

Imo I would put the skimmer first to start pulling gunk out before the water passes thru any other filtration.

Yea, that's what I thought too.
But I have seen a lot of sump designs putting filter meida like bio balls at the first.

My sump has water run over marjnepure bioballs, then flows into live rock, then an empty chamber where I have reactors, then to my skimmer, then my fuge, and finally my return pump.

Thanks, Rich. I viewed your 300gal. It's looking very nice.
How do you have that pant sections for ur sump. What size is that?

OK, the system is up and running now.
Since I'm putting a lot lot of fish in the tank, everything is over sized.
I bought 1 gal of the marine pure ceramic balls, trying to get some extra filtration. ( thanks CR for the BRS GROUP BUY)
I'm also buying the largest skimmer I could.
Here is the pic of the sump!View attachment 7643View attachment 7643
