New Scape

Since I had to tear down my scape to remove all acros and chisel off their encrusted bases, I took the opportunity to rescape my tank. I liked my old scape, but it was rather limiting because it was too vertical causing shadows and it was up against the glass causing poor flow circulation and limiting my two tangs swim lanes.

With the new scape, I wanted:
  1. Nothing touching the glass
  2. Maximum coral placement options.
  3. Open swim lanes
  4. More depth (some things closer to the front and some closer to the rear)
  5. Varying heights in rock piles
  6. Gravity defying lean on some of the rock piles. (There are two big tubes of epoxy and tons of superglue holding this together)

Here is what I came up with. Pics from right, center, and left (still a little hazy from stirring up the sandbed):

Very nice! Looks very open. U got some sand to see, the top is very open for swimming and I dont see u having much problem with dead spots ...

looks good . are there enough caves and places for the big guys to sleep & hide out ? when i changed my scape i now have tons of swim space but lack of hiding space for larger fish. just wondering if you have same issue and how it worked out ?

Nice. So that's what a few beers and some motivation will get you. I need to catch a buz then...Lol...to lunas point. I too have that issue with lack of hide outs for my fish.

Yeah, it's good. The pile second from right really leans and forms a nice overhang. There was some positioning on Saturday night over who gets the best bed. Gary was in bed at 10pm even though I had the lights in till 3am working in the tank. The only two fish that need a cave is Larry King (emperor) and Al Roker (Niger trigger). They have both found spots. The tangs just kinda hover when they sleep.

I used big rocks for the base and epoxied them together so the base is super sturdy. Then there are smaller rock on top of that that are loose. This will allow me to tweak things when I put my acros back into the tank.

Thanks guys, I'm really happy with the new look.

Awesome job! So the gravity defying lean you talk about, was that intentional or what you thought was straight after several beers? Lol

Probably the beers. No, I just wanted it to look natural and not like a pile of rocks a human stacked up. The underside of the lean creates a nice cabe while the back side is a nice slope to place corals.

Amazing scape Gunner :)

seeing silver lining in all conditions is a nice thing to have :D when those corals get back in the tank they are going to look much better
