Hey guys I'm starting a new tank it's dimensions are 48L 30D 16T and I was wondering what type of lights to go with T5 or LED, substrate to use sand, crush coral, or bare. It is going to be acrylic and the sump is 36L 18D 16T- what type of skimmer should I use and best return pump, tank is drilled on the bottom he said.
The tank is going to have Palys,Zoas,Acans and few fish
Tank is currently being built
I still have to build stand for it
No hurry to st it up, going nice and slow

Thanks for the help/advice guys

I would go T5 6- or 8 bulb, Probably 8 bulb.

And also the SRO2000 for a skimmer, you will be very happy.

I would also use a mag 12 for your return or dual mag 7's.

I am a T5 guy so with your tank size I would go with at least 8 bulb or more likely 10 bulb fixture like ATI Powermodule. With 30in. from front to back 6 bulbs will not be enough. For return pump I recommend Eheim 1262 pump. They are great, quiet and very reliable. I believe in slower water turnover 5-6 times the total water volume is more than enough. The Water Blaster 5000 will be too much for your tank. For skimmer the SRO2000 would be great,I have heard only good things about them, but personally I was recommended Skimz SM 201 E-series for my 120 gal. tank and I love it. Completely silent and great performance out of it.

You've between given some great advice, but I'll like to add "don't do crushed coral". It'll raise your nitrates and scratch the heck out of your acrylic.

Any type of aragonite based sand will be fine, the size if the grains is a personal choice...although the sugar sized grains is a headache because it its constantly blowing around and the smallest thing could cause a sand storm.

That's what's in my tank now and I hate it I wish I could take it all out, never again its to fine

But then how would I add new stuff, prob a dumb question but I'm still new to this saltwater hobby, I have a lot of rock and zoas and Palys I wouldn't want to do anything that would jeopardize them

I put new clean sand in a ziplock bag and slowly lower it to the bottom and then open it up. Your tank will clear in hours and not days this way.
