I was thinking about going for a 40 gallon rimless and shallow ... Maybe 16 " deep. I wanted to do some zoos and maybe a few acans. Is there a drawback to these "shallow tanks. I think they look pretty cool? Anyone with experience

I LOVE the shape of my 24x24x18 marineland cube. I think the 40b has a lot of great qualities but the cube is so striking in a room.

Seen so many and I want one.. But buying PAR38's for the 24x24 measurement you will need two for sure.. Unless you don't mind the dark sides just go with one. I rather just buy a LED fixture IMO, but I know the look you are aiming for with the PAR38's..

The tank that I have is 18x18x8, which is a PITA to work with because of the height.. But my hobbit friend Jay likes it  The taller the better unless being used for frags only and not a DT.

Hope this helps ;)

+1 on two Par38s for that tank. I think the light spread is about 18" so your sides would be dark.

(And buy one of my Koralia 1400s for the tank!) ;)

fortunately Victor when my WP40 arrives ...I will have a few Koralias free. I may build it 18x18x16 to get away with one light because I have an idea how I want to mount it and one light will look a lot cleaner.

Dre ....just curious why an 8" in a pita to work in...I would have thought the deeper tanks were more difficult. I plan on making the stand a touch taller to .

Frags will be difficult to place as you don't have the height to work with... This tank if for frags to grow or meant to move. I'm working with 6" of water :( But we some how managed to make it into a DT/frag tank.. You are more than welcome to swing by ;)
