No ATO? no Problem

For those of you who simply cannot use a auto top off or have a direct RO line to your sump, Here is a simple and cheap solution.

My floor layout makes it impossible to run a direct RO line from my unit to the sump. There is also no water supply anywhere near the tank so having a unit inside the stand is out of the question.

My first fix was purchasing a 40g brute container that houses my RO water. This is feed into the brute through a float valve that auto shuts off the unit when full. Inside the brute is a pump that is plumbed through the brute and ends in a spout perfectly placed so that all i have to do is put a 5g container under it. the pump is plugged into a remote outlet so with one push of the remote, my 5g containers are filled in 1 minute.
(I will add pictures)

Ofcourse i still have to haul the water to my ato container, but theres no way around that.

On the side of my stand is a five gallon bucket( soon to be replaced by a custom bench with 15g container inside) i used a aqua lifter pump to transfer water from their to a float valve in the sump. the aqua-lifter pump is plugged into a timer that goes on for 5 minutes/4 times a day. the float valve won't let more water in once the desired level is reached so theres no need to worry about it overfilling. Be using this for about a month and its working great for now. Once i get a 15g container, i will only have to add water to it every 3 weeks.

Sounds kinda megshift, but it works for me. View attachment 11036View attachment 11037

i've thought about doin the same thing but iv'e heard that those float valves can fail. I used the one on my brute for a few months and all was fine. I was worried if it failed that there would be a never ending supply of RO water causing ur tank to overflow and crash.

If the float valve failed in my sump. it would still take days to overfill since the pump is only on for a select time. In which case the reseviour container would empty, or i would notice it. I look at my sump every day to grap food or dose into so if the water level was higher then the valve, i would see it.

As for the RO unit, its connected to my hose in the garage. I only turn it on during the day and never have it on over night. If it does overflow, I would be spending money on wasted water, but it would just overflow into the garage and run out to the street.

yeah sorry i edited my post but for some reason it didn't save it loll. I had made a comment about the timer preventing it overfilling.
