Oh Dear God Help Me!!!

Building the "My Tanked Tank". I have most of it together.

THE SUCKING NOISE!!! Great God in heaven someone please tell me how to stop it!! It's every couple of seconds. I hear it in the basement, I hear it in the attic, I hear it in my sleep. I can no longer concentrate on researching the ^&**&^$@@$%^* problem. I have a migraine and I am so tense I can no longer stay in the house.

Overflow is a simple pipe with a cover over it going into the hoses that take water to basement. There is an air hose valve in the cap that came like that when I bought the tank.

Please tell me what to do I don't know anymore and I'm shutting the entire system down tonight if I don't get the f'ing noise to stop.

Try adding a durso standpipe; it's less than $5 of plumbing parts. I assume that the sucking is a very strong siphon through the drain line (like a surge tank), so it could also be beneficial to add a ball or gate valve to bring the drain rate closer to that of the return pump. Then it won't be able to "surge" and suck as much air.

Good luck! This project has had an insane amount of problems, and hopefully you're almost through them!

I know this solution is simple but the sound for 2 days straight has left me so on edge. I am still working under tank so I have to pull out my shooting earplugs to drown out the noise. Is shutting the return pump down some a good solution? Can I put the ball valve right onto the drain pipe?

+1 dont quit now have a shot and go buy a ball valve and put it on that drain turn your system back on and adjust that one pipe until the noise deadens if thos is yhe only one making the noise that should fix it rater quickly the ball valve isnt going to be on the pipe you have pictured but below the tank the durso stand pipe would be the next best option

I looked up durso standpipe and when I saw what it looked like, I finally found out what the two pipes are that came with the 120

I pulled it out of the old tank and put it in this one and there is no change except now I'm drunk with a migraine... no dam change whatsoever. I'm shutting the pump down.

Yeah, you have the surge tank effect going on for sure. A ball or gate valve would almost positively fix that. :)

Maybe because two of these pipes have done nothing. the headache is so bad now i have to shut down the entire system. everyone else must have something different than just a regular plain pipe. this is ridicoulsy stupid. the return pipe is almost closed completely and the noise continues. Durso pipe is not as good as what everybody claims it is.

Send me a phone number; I can make my tank gurgle obscenely or be as silent as dirt within seconds. :)

3000 milligrams of Naproxen and 4 beers later, I finally got some peace. The standpipes were not solving the problem so I took all the quick suggestions and cannibalized my 120g. I took the valve that has a handle that you can actually turn by hand and put it on the overflow pipe (which is actually just a hose). It is wide open but is slows the water down just enough to make that knife-piercing-thru-the-brain noise subside.

I'm now running up and downstairs trying to adjust the pump to everything stays even.. I am spent.....

I am sorry for screaming for help on such a simple task. I do not like to be lazy and ask for the answer when I could figure it out for myself but this time I was going ballistic. It's finally quiet and I can't do anymore so I am going to relax and have a Lizard Lick Towing marathon cause I can't get enough of Bobby.....

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Check out the latest picks of my "Tanked" Tank!

Peace and quiet again ,but I overdosed on meds. Now feel like crap.

Mods can delete this, this whole thread makes me look bad.
