Came accross this little iphone accessory that might be pretty cool for taking some macro shots (I was thinking specifically z/p's) and is only ~$55 verses a $400-$800 DLSR w/ Macro Lens. I'd just move the frag onto a rack right in front of the glass and obviously mke sure the glass was crystal clear.

Thought about ordering one, might be worth it - if not, I guess I could always return it.

Dave, this same exact model? I know there are other types that are hard to position the lens on the iPhone vs this one just snaps in place. If this is the same one you've tried, then that's good info to know lol

I've seen these too, they have them at Target for 55 I think. I've also been thinking about getting once since like you said a macro lens will run me about 300

I know that it won't be the quality of a true macro lens, but hopefully better than a plan camera photo or even a point-and-shoot. I Might give it a try...I can always return it.

I just bought this the other day, The macro shots are amazing

Very nice frankie - Im assuming these were through the front glass? roughly how far away? Review said it was obviously best to be right over the object, but im curious from what distance you can still get decent shots (Id move Z/Ps to a rack right in front of the glass)

Maybe if you have a chance post side-by-side pics with and without the macro lens?

Did you order yours online or find it locally (target, etc) ?

You have to get extremely close with the macro bascially got to get right over the coral. I had 2 againts the glass and the Monti Cap I had in another glass jar just to get a good shot.

You can get it from Bestbuy thats where I picked mine up from I have a $5 off coupon so it kind of covers Tax in the city. They are price right at $69.99 at best buy I think it's worth though if you want to find something close to a Marco shot without breaking the bank

Gotcha, cool thx for the info.

Maybe I'll move z/p frags to a small container, still under the lights...see if I can get the polyp to re-open and then take a top-down shot.... In a perfect world lol.

Yeah I am thinking of trying to get an Arcylic Box made to have the corals put inside then take a pretty good shot.

Well, lifeproof iphone cases are 100% waterproof but can't do that due to the external lens... not sure a 'viewing box' would work, specially in the 120g the racks are still 12-14" deep, in the 20L they're 1-2" from the bottom. Are you thinking basically a 'viewing box' type design to float in the tank (so its still under the lights), with the frags/coral in there? If the container isn't under the tank lights, I'm thinking you wouldn't get all that great of coloration.

Yeah some type of viewing box but still under the lights... I might have to see if I can get something like this done

Dan thanks for starting the tread and Frankie thanks for sharing your opinion since I've also been kicking around the idea of buying this for my iPhone. Dan if you wanted to test out the porthole type of work around, I have the AVASt Marine Works Top-Down Porthole for my Canon. My iPhone can rest on top of it but since I don't have a waterproof case I'm not to kine on trying it.

At the CMAS swap, dirk had a gadget like this. It was a longer lense and had a case and everything. Has anybody seen this before? I should have picked it up that day but I didn't. Now I can't find it anymore.

Ed, yeah I might take you (or someone with a porthole viewer) on that offer just to see how they turn out. My main concern is the distance ... For example, my 120g is 26'' deep lol and nothing is right at the surface, z/p's are on racks about 1/2 way down. I think I'm gonna toss it on the ole' credit card and test one of these out - Might be the best thing next to a $600+ purchase.

I was so busy running around, I barely had a chance to stop over by him - Does he have all his products online somewhere?
