Thanks guys. I will do all that procedure.

Dre, I will break down all my tanks if my daughter not get any money for college. I am broke...

Have her fill out fafsa like others said. If you guys don't receive any money for school, she may still be eligible to apply for a student loan.

Ask the school she going to if they have a list of available scholarships. They usually do. Ask high school counselor. Call financial aid office of school and ask them. Fill out fafsa as its the key for government grants loans etc. Also you can estimate on fafsa based on last years taxes if deadline is due prior to taxes this year.

Fafsa is very hard to get money from. I applied and we got nothing... Best ways are to check with the school she gets into. I know my school gives scholarships based on your high school GPA and it's a decent amount of money. There are also many other scholarships she can apply for. I think you guys need to figure out what school she will be going to, and then start from there to look for the scholarships the school offers.

Different school offer different scholarships and vary from difficulty to receive. I know large schools like Minnesota, purdue really don't give much scholarships based on grades. I did some research into this, but my grades in high school weren't good enough to compete against most of the others that applied... So I was happy with my 3grand off of tuition based on my high school GPA... but this scholarship only applies to my school at iowa state.

With Fasfa if your daughter is under 25 that is the age you are no longer liable for her ediucation, this student aid is based on your income not her's and is hard to get. You can try but you will have to submit your tax returnes from last year. But there are a lot of grants and scolarships out there ask everyone from your life insurance company to your banks even bp ammico offers a scolarship even if its for only $500 she can get as many as she can. Even look on line. Then there is student loans that are defered untill after she is done with school. I had my kids do community collage for there assoicates degree, its cheeper, then go to a 4 year collage for there bachlors degree. Good luck

thats a great suggestion for a community college... honestly, i spent my 1st two years taking gen ed classes for my degree... of course then you'd need to keep your grades up in community college to be able to apply into a good university

I took the first two years of my major at Oakton Community College. Got good grades and transferred to IIT for architecture. Got a $5000 scholarship, per year, for having a good GPA. I say the harder you study, the cheaper it gets. Perfect GPAs usually mean school is cheap, wherever you go. That's great incentive to be a good student, in my opinion. FAFSA is great too. It seems complicated, but it's mostly done online and you always get something to help you out. At least it worked for me. Rule is: A poor college student gets more money from uncle Sam. So having a crappy job, showing low income on tax returns, usually means bonus points as far as FAFSA goes. There's my 2 cents.

My first 2 years at uic were paid in full by fafsa.
Then I started working and it dropped down to next for nothing.
If you dont get much from fafsa, she can get a job that has good tuition reimbursement. Many easy retail jobs such as Best Buy have really good tuition reimbursement plans.

I'm regards to asking ins company and what not, try asking everywhere u feel cause there are grants give from many places. As simple as writing a short or long essay and if chose. They give free money for school.

Thanks guys. I will try my best to search for it.
Myself when I escape from Vietnam and came to Chicago with no English speaking, I took 2.5 years in Truman Community College then transfered to Northeastern University another 2.5 year to get my degree in Computer Science. By that time I own about 5000 student loan. I forget how I got Financial Aid because it almost 25 years ago.
The problem is my daughter does not want to go to Community College, she want out of state and you know out of state is expensive tuition. Once again thank you very much for your input.

ouch ya. out of state is expensive... But there are a few universities that have out of state tution that is relatively cheap compared to others... Iowa State(where i'm at, i'm paying around 8k per semester for tuition with my scholarship), Mineasota twin cities, mizzou... just a few i know off the top of my head. Of course, it all depends on major. Engineering tends to be a bit more expesnive for some reason
