Painting the back of my tank

I'm looking for some advice on what type of paint to use to paint the back of my tank. I am setting up a 40 breeder and just finished drilling it. I was going to use the black tank background that you tape on and just decided to paint it. So my question is what type of paint to use and some sources to buy it from. I want it to be spray on as well. Thanks in advance to everyones input.

The spray paint that is used by nearly everyone is Krylon Fusion. I believe it is available at Menards.

Thanks for the fast response. I'm heading to Menards in a few to buy more plumbing parts for the build so I'll buy some paint as well.

I went with plastidip, can be easily peeled off if I want to try a different color.

for the outside you can use any spraypaint so i just bought the cheap-o stuff but Krylon is watersafe/reefsafe after it dries.

I have two can's of that in my garage. Was going to use it on my car because of how durable it is but also just peels off. Might have to try it on the new tank.

That stuff started bubbling and sliding off my tank after a year. It was one of the reasons I decided to breakdown and rebuild. I painted the back black with a roller.

Wow. I used it on my QT and Miracles put a similar vinyl on my DT. No issues on either. Qt has only been done 6 months or so, I'll wait and see.

It looked great and I was hoping it would work but as time went on, more bubbling kept occuring and then water would get back there and cause more bubbling. Eventually it started sliding off and since there was no way for me to fit anything behiind my tank, due to half an inch of clearance, I decided to to what everyone recommended in the begining. Buy a can of paint and roll it on. It took 3-4 coats, but it was easy.

krylon fusion FTW. We spend so much trying to make everything right I wouldn' trust anything that didn't settle as completely inert. Most of the other spray paints will off-gas for years. Krylon is a plastic spray, not a paint. I even have it on the inside of my overflow and it's indestructable.

Well I went with the Krylon Fusion flat black. I want to start setting it up soon and didn't want to wait on the mail man for anything.

Thanks to all who posted.
