pH problem solved!!

For the longest time I've been struggling with borderline acceptable pH levels. During the day I would have anywhere between 7.75-7.85 pH and at night would fall to 7.65-7.70. My tank is in the basement which is already a typical room for higher CO2 levels. While anything above 7.8 is acceptable, we are playing at the margins. So to solve my low pH levels I ran 30 ft of 3/4" PVC from an outside wall across my ceiling and down behind my tank. I then hooked my skimmer airline to it and am now at 8.18 pH after running for only 5 hours. For any basement builds with lower pH, I recommend running a fresh air line. Modern homes are just too air tight and while opening the windows is an option, its not so much in the Chicago area with brutal summers and winters. Oh and skimmer performance has no degraded at all since I have a larger 3/4" pipe.

Good stuff !! I did this as well with the same size flex hose my skimmer uses and had great results with ph raising good info for anyone that has low ph

Hmm... I have a brick exterior though =\

also what about in the winter as well at excess moisture?

Drilling thru the mortar is like butter . Silicone around hole. Assuming the rafters in ur bsmnt are a couple feet off the outside ground. Moisture wouldnt be issue . Now if u did larger pipe it would be a way bigger hole but 3/8" hole would be perfect for the flex type hose skimmers usually use And easily covered up if u ever needed to. jmo
