Phosphate SPonge By kent?

Hey there so my phosphates are at about 0.25 ppm so i have some phophate sponge just wondering if i can put it directly into the tank in a mesh bag...or does it have to be in the canister?

Flow has to pass through it, so yeah in the canister filter it goes

I thought I read some people were putting it in filter socks. As long as you have flow going through and it can't leak out, you should be good.
