Phosphates

Anyone know if a flower pot in a reef could be leaking phosphates into my aquarium?

If you have a second pot, throw it in some RODI water and test in a few days. Best way to figure out if it is.

Hmm good call with the second pot because I do. And ever since I put it in my reef I have gotten gha, and its the only thing I can thing of that can be cause it to leak phosphates.

i think it could definatly leak phophates into the tank. is it red clay pot? clay is oaded thick with nutrients so to me it onky makes sense.

Was the pot used for plants? If so then the potting soil and fertilizers are loaded with phosphate. I can't imagine that some wouldn't soak into the clay.

If it's an unglazed pot, it's porus. Given that, it has the potential to leach, at least in theory. As IHAVECRABS suggested, testing in RODI for a few days or weeks would be an easy to to know for sure instead of just guessing.

Never used, brand new and I had it sit for a few weeks in quarantine tank. It is the red clay pot, and low and behold it was leaking phosphates. Shame the clowns loved it. Time for plan b.
