Please help.!!

So I purchased a skimmer used and was told that it was basically new. However when he was packing it up he started talking about using a toothpick to start skimmers that are used cause sometimes a crab shell will get stuck and I was like that's weird but ok. So I got it home but was going on vacation that week for 10 days. I just got home and go to set it up and it would not start. So I was like wtf, and tried the trick and it worked. But there was nothing stuck In it... I went to open up the skimmer and the impeller is all beat up. So basically I would need to jump start the skimmer everytime it turned off. I am obviously upset and this is a vendor who said if there were any issues to let them know. After contacting them they stated its a used items and nothing they can do... Yet I think they knew all along about the issue. Do I have a right to be upset? If it was me I would take it back because i believe in karma. I just want to know what you guys think?

I don't want to cause any issues with the vendor.. I just want to see if I have the right to be upset. I understand if it was months down the road and I was using it but I didn't even get to use it for five minutes..

If they end up not doing anything I will post the name just so you guys are aware and wont have the same issues.

This should have been a huge red flag. A skimmer should not need a toothpick to start, ever. You got scammed, he apparently knew there was an issue. I don't know if I'd even give them the time to correct the issue.

Yea it did.. But I thought maybe he was talking about a different skimmer where he had that issue. I should have stopped right then and there. :(

this is a two sided situation IMO....

first would be that as a customer it is our responsibility to do our do diligence in making sure we fully understand what we are buying with regards to Used equipment.
When buying a used skimmer or pump, the very first thing I check is the Impeller....I disassemble and inspect all visible parts.....this helps me understand what I'm getting myself into and reduce any "surprises". Then I go straight home and test it to be certain there are no unseen issues...

on the other hand, as a seller, unless they have a very visible sign posted that reads:
"We do not inspect or test any used equipment so you are buying at your own risk!!! All sales are final!!!"
then I would expect that store to stand by their products, used or new, and should assist you in correcting any issues that you have.
The fact that he told you about using a toothpick to start it up seems to indicate that he may have been aware that there might have been an issue with it , which IMO seems a bit underhanded, but let's give him the benefit of the doubt and see if he will do right by you.

Lastly, if he told you to contact him if you have any problems and then dismisses you after the sale is completed, I would definitely post the stores name and no longer buy from them....

Your totally right I should have. I took his word for it that it was only a couple of weeks old and that there were no issues. I just didn't think that a person let alone a business would pull something like this. I know it was a foolish thing for me to do.
