So i pulled the trigger and ordered pods from algae barn 60$ ouch but was bogo and got phyto so one im gonna dump in my tank with lights out the second one im gonna try breed em i have small tank and bubbler i saw online i guy did it looked like he used phyto in the water maybe for food ? Anyways anyone ever did this any suggestions id like to be able ro just grab bunch pods to repopulate when ever i wanted and not spend 60$ dam dollars each time stupid bugs r expensive

Yeah, you need to keep the water tinted green. Every few days it'll clear up after its consumed, and then you add more. You'll need a to build a phyto "reactor" in order to keep feeding them, although you can do that with a bucket.

Sorry to hijack the thread. I’ve got a young tank (7 months) and added phytoplankton and copepods twice and never see any pods since. I added them to the refugium with macro algea and they just seem to disappear after I add them. I know they eat phytoplankton and the tank is crystal clear but figured some would survive and reproduce but I have no evidence of survivors and I don’t have any fish that specifically target pods.
Is this normal?
Is this the reason to set up a Pod breeding tank or is it to feed a fish?

rumen in Florida is loaded with pods and just picked up 3 bottles with free delivery for 37.00 or 2 bottles for 25.00 and yes put them in with lights out so they have a chance to get into rock work and hide for a few hours
good luck Bryan

Would they happen to have been tiger pods? If so, those don't really seem to reproduce so well in reef tanks, and there's only a few thousand per bottle. Tisbe pods seem to do the best, because they thrive in reef aquarium temperatures, and tend to hide from predators.

Many years ago, I got a variety of macro algae from reefcleaners.org. They came with a lot of pods and they quickly propagated in my tank. You might want to try that. I see that they now sells pods for $10 a bag.

I looked for them couldnt find em i put dot com dammit smh lol oh well next time

Do you have a refugium?
Usually if you got a place for them to be away from the main display you will be fine.
I toyed with trying to raise them as well, and the refugium or other tank is the best.
If you have a sponge or corrugated plastic or other material for them to live in Your refugium / other tank move that material into the display from time to time to repopulate the main display.

I generally shake out my filter sock now when cleaning the socks and I get half dozen to a dozen pods every time.

So i got my pods today and even at bogo price i cant see why it cost me 60$ i guess its just me when i think of pods i think of amphipods the big suckers these guys r baby brine size maybe smaller i bumped a bag in the fuge second bag is floating i will dump it in my tank i guess tonight . I will tell u what at regular price its a rip off at buy one get one price im not sure how much better well 60$ in the toliet lol ssshh dont tell tge wife lol no point in breeding tgese tiny *****s

It always seems to be a gamble when buying pods, I stopped buying them , I was tired of getting ripped off too ..
We should start a community breeding project!
