I have a 10 gallon Nano that has been running for about a month and a half or more. All parameters are in check, although nitrates are a little high. The two clown fish have been doing pretty well. One is definately asserting that he/she is the dominant one. Nothing crazy, reminds me of the wife and I, all cuddly most of the time, but every now and then she is attacking him for no reason at all. I also have several Hermits and snails as a clean up crew. I also have about 12 pounds of live rock and the associated little goodies that I see sometimes at night.
First day in the tank, the Peppermint was active and exploring. The second night (48 hours in the tank) it molted. I could not find the shrimp itself and was panicked. Later that day, I saw the Peppermint in one of the caves. For the next couple of days, it did not come out as much, but would move around. It did eat some of my Aptasia. About 5 days after owning it, I saw it dead in one of the caves. Not long after, the Hermits had moved in and had a snack and finished the rest off the next day.
The day that it died was the day that we hit the 80s in Chicago. The tank went from it's normal 78 to 81.
So, was it the tempurature swing?
Did I starve the poor thing? (I was trying to get it to eat the Aptasia, so not intentionally feeding it)
I don't think Nitrates should have been an issue, but I very well could be wrong.
