Im new to saltwater and I'm going crazy my powers been off since 6am and at 9 when petco opened I grabbed there last 2 battery operated air pumps I have alot of corals in there and I don't know what to do

Get the oxygen going for now and see if you can get a powerhead circulating water. Worse case scenario you will need a generator.

Will not help on this go around but look into a apc system that you would use on a comtuter system, you can find them used on CL. That will keep your system going for a couple of hours, or at least till you get home...

I'll try to find my inverter. You can just plug it into the cigarette lighter in the car and run an extension cord. I'm probably the closest person to you so I'll see what I can do

I think I have a small inverter that I used in my van for a small tv

Ill go look for it now so if you dont find yours

Wow 1st place I looked that wont happen again for a million years lol

its only 140 watt with 1 outlet but should at least power an air pump

Man thanks guys for the advice but I'm pretty much screwed, I live in a condo. Now I'm on way to work. This is no good, comed said if anything happens fill out a claim, I said 1- I don't want my stuff to die and 2- nothing could replace what I have because I picked everything for a reason, I told her its not like a car where each brand looks the same, each coral is unique. So mad right now, lived here 7years and never had power off like this

This is what you need to do ASAP! Buy an UPS unit plug it in at work charge it and plug in a small heater and power head!

I did this for that huge power outage we had a year or two ago! In my case I had two, one for a large heater and the other was chargeing. The heater draws so much that you could only get an hour or so. Didn't have to use one for the MP40's because I had bought the back up from them! Good Luck bud!

I lost power at night awhile ago, so no stores. All I did was stir the tank once in awhile for flow and everything was fine until the morning until I got a generator. I had no power for 3 days.
The aerator should help a lot. Only thing u really need is some kind of flow to get oxygen to the animals

A year or two ago I used a great big spoon and stirred the tank every hour or so for a minute or two, everything survived and this went on for 3 days. I think that you will be ok.

Thanks Erik!
It is pretty crazy how much we can stress about our SW tanks. That was the worst week ever for me and my tanks! Absolutly amazing how such a simple tool can extend the lives of our SW pals! (:

It's all about the power of the spoon! As long as you are creating / breaking the surface tension of the water you are oxygenating it. Try not to stress too much about it.

Man I left at 11am to work and I won't be back til earliest 1030, hope everything's not dead in the tank,if it is I'm selling the tanks
